Learn More About Muscle Ape Massage
Who Do We Help?
At Muscle Ape Massage, we have worked with thousands of patients. What we have discovered is that as people age, particularly when they go past their 20s, they start to gradually slow down and are not as active as they were when they were younger. In their 30s, many begin to rediscover sports they may not have played in a while. This leads to old injuries – those they have ignored in the past and dismissed as little niggles – coming back to the forefront.
When individuals reach their 40s, our focus is on keeping them in a condition where they can participate in the sports they love and keep them injury-free. Many of the difficulties people of this age experience include failing to lift as heavy weights or run as fast as they used to. They can’t push themselves like they could if they had an optimal recovery plan. We work with people within their limitations, focusing on keeping them pain-free so they’re not reaching for the painkillers or the injections.
As people enter their 30s and 40s, they start to realise they can’t mask their pain anymore. For instance, some clients express frustration about being stiff as a board in the morning or feeling like they’ve been run over after playing five-a-side football with friends. Our goal is to keep them in optimal condition year-round so they are only required to see us for maintenance checkups.
One of the many patients we have successfully treated is a school teacher in his late 30s who loves playing golf on the weekend. He also plays five-a-side football. Recently, he has found that after playing football, he goes straight into golfing on the weekends. By the end of the weekend, his body feels broken. Come Monday morning, he picks up painkillers and does light, unguided stretching, which isn’t an effective solution.
To help him, we worked on building a simple stretching plan. This plan takes no more than a couple of minutes before he goes to bed, a couple of minutes in the morning, and then a few minutes before he plays a sport. In addition to that, we incorporated hands-on treatment to target the root of his problems. For example, if his back hurts while he’s sprinting in football, we found that he wasn’t stretching his legs enough. This lack of stretching affected his posterior chain and led to sciatic problems.

What Makes Muscle Ape Massage Different To Other Clinics?
What makes Muscle Ape Massage different to other massage therapy practices is our staff. Each team member is not only a qualified sports massage therapist but also an APTA-certified personal trainer. This means they are not coming in and guessing what your problem might be – they have extensive experience dealing with a range of sports injuries.
If you have a sports-related injury, we understand the mechanical processes taking place in your body. Due to our extensive experience, we know where to look for the root cause of pain. Often, if you’re experiencing pain in your back, it didn’t start there, it could be stemming from your lower extremities – the calves, knees, or hamstrings. This lower pain can then translate into shoulder problems or upper back issues.
Our approach is very thorough. We like to examine your history and understand when the pain started and how it continues to blight your life. If your job consists of sitting at a desk all day, we’re interested in your seating position, how you sleep at night, and how you take care of yourself more generally.
By getting to the root cause of your problem, we can effectively address it in the long-term.
